Technology knows no borders

The City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County are using the TITAN CMS and SmartSearch to power the nation's first-ever combined city/county Web presence.

For the first time, citizens do not need to know which body of government performs a particular service. They only need to go to either the city or county site – or to www.milwaukee.gov -- to search a combined data repository. Behind the scenes, the manual search intervention features of Northwoods SmartSearch allows city and county personnel to assign specific information to commonly-used search criteria.

The city and county now provides better access to information, and also save taxpayer dollars by sharing the TITAN CMS and SmartSearch, combined servers and Internet infrastructure.

Innovation Award

"When we brought Northwoods in, they were the ones that really poked and prodded us to develop a site that is as intuitive and easy to use as some of the major sites in the private sector. They brought to the table the means to bring this forward."

Bud Borja, Milwaukee County CIO

"The site uses a technology called SmartSearch. Someone looking for help with that abandoned vehicle can type 'abandoned vehicle' in the search bar and they get highly-relevant results from whichever city or county site is applicable."

Randy Gschwind, City of Milwaukee CIO
